####################################################################### # 2020/05/07 - PsychOS486 0.1.5 - Porteus hates refractainstaller and # maybe just restore from backup idea # ####################################################################### I tried installing Porteus-XFCE-v3.1-i486.iso using 'refractainstaller' from the version found in PsychOS 3.4.6 (i686) and there was a kernel panaic. So, I then tried earlier versions such as 'refracta-base_9.0.8-4_all' and '...9.1.6_all' and there were grub-related errors. Perhaps because there isn't one? Lilo? If anyone is wondering, I downloaded the deb files, expanded them, and then placed the files in their intended destinations. However, something about all of this did dawn on me. An i486 computer isn't going to be able to boot a DVD or even a USB but would a CD-ROM (and floppy), which has (or usually) around 650-900MB of storage. So, it may be better (or lazier) if I supply download links to Porteus, TinyCore, or Puppy Linux, and then when those systems are booted, have the user restore from a backup file on a USB that can hold more. It would be a little more work than people are used to these days, but I would argue that it would be less than trying to use multiple CD-ROMS, not that I currently know how to do that anyway.
