############################################################################################## # 2020/06/24 - PsychOS486 1.2.0 - Trying TXZ Pup and failing to add KateOS's package manager # ############################################################################################## I ran into a vesion of Puppy Linux called 'TXZ Pup 4.5.0-7-13-2010' the other day and plan to play around with that for a bit because it has (drum-roll) the 'installpkg' command, which should help with installing Slackware packages. Something may have been my fault, but users of TXZ Pup need to pay close attention to the keyboard setup or may need to run the "XKB Configuration Manager." TXZ Pup's included 'GParted' takes forever to format a partition. The bottom menu panel takes a minute to show-up. In regards to the keyboard layout issue, it was because TXZ Pup turns the Numlock on and I was using a laptop. The GRUB configuration helper on TXZ Pup sucks. However, while trying to fix using 'Slacko Pup' as live, it somewhat caused an issue because TXZ Pup looks for "hda1" while Slacko Pup looks for "sda1". Change: kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 ...to "kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1" in the "/boot/grub/menu.lst" file. If I do use TXZ Pup as a base, I may have to give some instructions regarding GRUB and maybe a file to replace "menu.lst". [A little while later...] Well, I tried to get to get KateOS's package manager working and while doing so, I sort of "borked" TXZ Pup. The bottom panel would load but none of the desktop icons and most of the GUI programs will not run. I get errors related to 'libxml2.so.2,' 'libc.so.6,' 'libz.so.1,' and 'GLIB_2.7' not found. I might have to either just reinstall TXZ Pup and be happy with the 'installpkg' option or try to get 'installpkg' onto Slacko Pup. Oh, and using the "upgrade" option while reinstalling TXZ Pup di not fix anything.
