############################################################## # PsychOS 03/06/2016 - Korora Oddities & PsychOS 1.9.0 Autumn # ############################################################## * Ok, so something odd happened after installing PsychOS on top of Korora. Some stuff from Korora popped-up during boot, and the panel positions are that of Korora rather than how PsychOS has normally been handing it. - Possible left-over hidden configuration files in the home folder. * Still haven't tested the internet. * Also noticed that by using Korora, the ugly terminal text at boot was replaced by a loading bar. The home partition wasn't formatted; this is really cool that this can be done. I am so glad that I partitioned my hard drive the way I did (See PsychOS 2016:03:03) and will be doing this for now on. * First boot was well over a minute long (configuration BS). * Second boot was ~42 seconds. !!! Numix for style and Faba for icons makes the startup RAM ~118MB * Plan on further testing later, but PsychOS 1.9.0 Autumn is doing awesome. * Investigate the Rt-kit daemon ** WiFi is missing (See PsychOS 2016:02:18); could just be the network "/etc/network/interfaces" file not setup correctly. !!! After Bleachbit, PsychOS's next boot started in terminal mode!!! (See PsychOS 2016:03:07) * Have to suspend the system manually (lid shut not working). * The current plan is to format and reinstall PsychOS 1.9.0 to fix issues, or at least try. * I attempted to mount a USB flash drive earlier to borrow the XFCE configuration file in the home directory (hidden) for later use; I am not happy with the lame panel setup that OpenSUSE uses with XFCE. I like my panel at the top (panel #1) with a dock at the bottom (panel #2). * The XFCE startup splash screen is incredibly annoying, but it may be necessary. So, I may try to use a custom PsychOS icon. Update: ---- * I encrypted the /home partition during the setup; doing so made the system ask for a password during boot. After login, it doesn't seem to be a problem. - At second boot, it took 19 seconds to be asked for a password for the /home partition, 26 seconds to get to the login screen, and then 17 seconds to get past the XFCE splash screen; total is 1:08:46 minutes. * Using Numix theme and Faba icons, after login is ~130MB of RAM * I disabled the screensaver and will use Htop to check for memory leaks. I may also use this time to find out what packages I need for Lyx. - Uptime: 00:08:44 = 134/990MB Swp = 0/3999MB * There's a long list of texlive related packages that would have been recommended for install, according to Synaptic Package Manager. Texlive-publishers is the package that carries the APA document classes, as well as many others. * After checking for any programs that still needed to be added to PsychOS, turns out that there is no way, or easy way, to install: - Anki -> flash cards - SigViewer -> EEG data reader - Asunder CD Ripper -> rips CD's - Camermonitor -> camera icon shows up in panel if webcam is being used (security reasons) - Labyrinth Mind Mapping -> mind mapping (diagrams; bubble maps, etc.)
