########################################################################### # 2019/11/23 - PsychOS 3.4.6 - Installing PsychOS 3.4.6 on a 2008 Macbook # ########################################################################### It took three attempts at installing PsychOS 3.4.6 on a Macbook from 2008 and I think it was either because of issues regarding trying to encrypt partitions or the "/dev/sda1 FAT32" (first partition) had the wrong flag assigned and needed to be "bios_grub". However, because of the nature of Macbooks, I still have to hold down the Alt/Option key and select the falsely labeled "Windows" partition as for whatever reason, a Macbook EFI refuses to acknowledge the existence of any other system besides MacOS(X) or Windows. After installing, I tested a few things and found out that my idea of using "~" or "$HOME" when creating symbolic links did not work for the new username and was looking for "/home/psychos". So, I'll be placing PsychOS Tools (psychostools directory) inside of "/opt/" and then symbolically linking to there instead, which isn't a big deal but that does mean I'll have to edit the 'psychos-update' script and that's more "sudo" to have to run because of the location. If everything had gone smoothly, the boot-up to finish install would have been less than an hour on an 11-year-old laptop with two cores and 4GB of RAM. After installing, I rebooted and ran an update and it only wanted to grab ~200MB of packages and freed-up 14MB of space. One of the bif features of PsychOS took forever to load and I think it may have to do with missing font but I am not sure yet. Some of the windows for 'refractinstaller', which uses 'yad', are still too large but I have yet to figure out a way to fix them. In the meantime, I've been using "Alt+Mouse" to move windows up (to click "Ok") as needed. This is really only an issue on small screens.
