Welcome

The PsychOS project aims to provide multiple, unique, software-rich platforms for lighter/older hardware.

Introduction

PsychOS is a systemd-free, GNU/Linux operating system based on Devuan ASCII but tailored towards retrophiles of all ages. It is packed with software and scripts for an easier, out-of-the-box user experience.

Future Plans and Ideas

Currently, the main focus for the PsychOS Project is to create distributions and desktop environments for 32-bit and older computers, as well as things for lighter hardware, such as the Raspberry Pi. If I were to wait for the next nostalgia cycle, as older websites and software get "snuffed-out," either by the non-sensible claim that all plain-http sites are dangerous or because software maintainers delete their older 32-bit packages every time they run out of hard drive space, projects like this will be next to impossible in perhaps just a few years, especially in regards to GNU/Linux software, which I find very ironic and if you do not believe me, feel free to read PsychOS486's (as in i486) development notes.

So essentially, the plan for the PsychOS Project is to create things that will help you keep that "magic smoke" circulating for as long as possible with a "SHTF" approach rather than assume you will always have Internet access. However, please keep in mind that this project is a more or less of a "share while I learn" sort of thing. [More]
